The day-use portion of People's Creek includes a two-lane boat ramp with courtesy dock, an accessible fishing pier, swimming beach and large picnic shelter. The campground portion has an upper and lower campground. The lower area offers 38 sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups. Peoples Creek Lower section is the only campground at Wappapepello Lake with waterfront campsites. A large sandy mooring area is available for campers. The upper area has 19 full-service campsites with 50-amp electric, water and sewer hookups.
People's Creek Recreation Area, located in the southeastern Ozark foothills of Missouri, is a great launchpad for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking or simply exploring the Wappapello Lake area.
Completed in 1941, Wappapello Lake provides an estimated $3.9 million in annual flood protection to agricultural lands and developed areas along the St. Francis River. A peaceful cove offers endless recreation opportunities with 57 campsites, a picnic shelter, beach, accessible fishing pier, and Lake View Trail.
Very nice campground. Typical Army Corp Campground. Typical in that everything is perfect. Very clean. Full hookups in the southern loop with 30/50 amp power. All sites paved.
There are two loops here. Loop 1 through 38 (the northern loop called The Lower Loop) and Loop 39-57 (southern loop called The Upper Loop).
We arrived in October and The Lower Loop was already closed for the season. Hence, this review is only for The Upper Loop.
All sites well designed for easy back in. When you pull in off the main road the first road to your left is sites 55 through 57. If your turn right then straight ahead is the main camping area, but just to your left are sites 50 through 52. From a walk around the campground it looks like all the sites are pretty level side to side But, from front to back you may be on a slope.
The worst site here in my opinion would be site 39. It backs directly up to the very busy and noisy highway. I would avoid this site.
Very nice marina within walking distance with a boat ramp. Nice paved hiking trail around the park. Shower and toilet facilities available. Picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Camp host on duty.
We had a blast. Stay at campsite right next tó lake. Went swimming everyday. Folks that live and work at campgrounds are super awesome and are helpful and nice as can be.
Nice family friendly sandy lake beach. We went during the week and there was no crowd. I like that it was roped off considering I have young children. The sand was a great texture and the views were great. There is a water thing to wash off the sand. I recommend bringing a beach umbrella for shade.
Our first visit and we enjoyed two nights camping. The campground is a typically well maintained CoE campground. In addition to a beach and boat ramp, campers can easily access the 3.0 mile Lake View Trail that can be used to reach the Lake Wappapello Dam and visitor center at the Spillway Recreation Area.
I love this place to go camping. But I won't do it till my babies are old enough to help us out lol. But it was really fun, and have a beautiful view where we camp ot. Amazing place with a beach lake and restroom/bathroom.
