Reviewing as a camper/cyclist.
My husband and i were cycling the Erie Canal and this was one of our overnight stops.
Ok. So not my favorite campground. I gave more than 1 star because 1) the lady at check-in was super lovely and helpful, 2) camp has a washer/dryer and 3) camping spots are pretty cozy
What i wasn't a fan of:
My main disappointment was the bathroom. It was not super good. Men's and Womens bathrooms share a vestibule, that's where the washer/dryer is. Wasn't a fan of that - didn't feel very comfortable being in there by myself with strange men just on the other side of the door. Bathrooms are very small, only 2 stalls, doors in the stalls didn't lock, lights in the womens bathroom took a while to go on, which at night is just a bit uncomfortable. (they did have toilet paper, yay for that).
The Showers were a little better privacy-wise, as they had a separate entrance from the bathrooms and men's showers, but still not the greatest. They had 3 shower cabins. The shower curtains were a bit used, and there was hair in one of the drains. There are no paper towels or hand dryers in the shower/bathroom. And i don't think there was soap either (i may be wrong about the soap, i'll edit the post then). Unlike other campground, the bathroom/shower experience just wasn't pleasant.
Also, there was an extra charge for setting up our tent at an RV spot (about $5-10 per person, can't remember exactly), but the outlet didn't actually work for regular phone chargers (in her defense, the lady at the front desk warned us it may not. Though i think they should say "it will not". "May not" was misleading).
Access to the camp is via unpaved road (for about 0.25 mile). Not an issue by car or for a seasoned cyclist, but a disaster on a bicycle for a beginner like myself.
Again, the lady at check-in was very nice. And I recognize that RVs have their own bathrooms so it's not the main focus. But for a camper, that's 80% of what you're looking for in a campground. Thus the lower rating.
I had many fond memories when my grandmother would take the family camping here every chance she could. Fish, catching tadpoles and running through the woods was great and the staff was friendly and grounds were always maintained. Now that I'm grown and have children of my own I wish to share the same experience with them.
A smaller, older campground, but in good condition. Showers were clean and warm. Toilets are pit-type, but functional and odor-free. There were a couple of signs around with biblical quotes, but they didn't actively try to evangelize me.
We camped there in a Class A RV with 2 other couples. All 3 couples were given nice gravel drive sites with plenty of space between. The laundry facilities were clean as were the bathrooms. There is great kayaking from the campground. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and we felt very welcome.
My family and I stayed here awhile back. We stayed in one of the cabins at the site. The accommodations were great for a week. We were right on the canal and we all enjoyed how peaceful it was.
The owners were awesome! I can't begin to describe how nice they were.
You can tell the owners take great pride in this place, our cabin while old, was well maintained and very clean. The campground itself was well cared for.
I am hopeful to get back there again.
