The place needs a good mowing and weed trimming. Needs some help. If it was my town park & camping area I would be embarassed. Needs a sign at the driveway to be easier to find.
A lovely little place to camp for several days and nights, a small park with a basic playground, an open pavilion with picnic tables, electrical hookups, wonderful water from the Ogallala Aquifer (it's at its greatest depth of 1,600+ feet nearby), and loaded full of a nice grove of Catalpa trees. No restroom here though there's one only a block away at the far end of the ball park to the east. No charge for camping but *please contribute* if you can (contribution box is next to the pavilion), as a few bucks can make a real difference. Easy walk to the village for groceries, hardware, and more. Have spent many a night here in my travels over the years. You can hear the trains go by though they aren't obnoxious, a small ridge deflecting much of the sound of the crossing horns (attached is my photo of a "Million Dollar Coal Train" the likes of which frequently pass through). The park can be a bit unkept at times, budgetary concerns being what they are lately, though still peaceful and enjoyable. The entire village has less than 200 souls with not quite 650 people living in the entire county. I could happily live here in this tight, artsy community, but as with other small hamlets such as this one: Affordable rents are few and far between, especially for one living on a small, fixed income such as myself. Maybe one day...
