About Campground

This campground is named after an early homesteader, the "Wild Man of the Mountains" George Pettingill. His grave is nearby. He is widely admired in the area although he was somewhat of a hermit. The campground is located where the Wise River meets Pettengill Creek.

Directions

The campground is located 10 miles south of Wise River on Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway Road 73.

Nice spot but got my firewood stolen one day and a few days later someone robbed my hammocks sleeping bag, pad, and some other clothes/gear stashed in the hammock. The bag was a nice marmot dry down bag. Nearly $1000 worth of goods.
