The shelter is located in the Misty Fiords National Monument Wilderness, approximately 28 air miles northeast of Ketchikan on Revillagigedo Island. Accessible by float plane or boat. Refer to: USGS map Ketchikan C-4.
It's a beautiful trail at the north end of the Tongass Hwy. You hear the sound of water throughout the trail and it has some waterfalls to enjoy.
A beautiful combination of costal and riverine environments, very much worth exploring!
Straightforward trail for the first 2 miles, but the trail can quickly become treacherous and muddy/boggy. Be sure to bring a sturdy pair of waterproof hiking boots and/or Xtratufs. Very challenging and endurance building hike. There’s a nice waterfall towards the end before the lake, but it honestly isn’t worth all the trouble of hiking in. Be safe!
