About Campground

Juniper Campground is 5 miles from Hwy 85 and is the only campground in the park's North Unit. All sites are open to tent camping and most can also be used by vehicles/RVs (no hookups).

All regular sites are first come, first served. Juniper Campground is trending to fill to capacity by late afternoon and definitely fills to capacity on holiday weekends.

As the name implies, Rocky Mountain juniper, as well as prairie cottonwood, shade the North Unit Juniper Campground.  Located along the banks of the Little Missouri river, the quiet campground is the starting point for many hikes within the park including the Little Mo and South Achenbach trails.  Just across from the campground, cannonball concretions can be found at the Buckhorn trailhead.

Campground is great garbage recycling receptacles everywhere so you dont have to walk far. One central located restroom with no showers are modern and clean. Camping is reasonably priced. You can view wildlife right from your campsite. Can access hiking and walking trails from campground.

I hardly ever rate places this low, but we had such a poor experience at this campground. When we first got to the campground, it was raining, and a buffalo was wandering through! It seemed so peaceful and perfect- even with the rain. When we came back later on in the day around 4, a construction crew had taken over the area. A worker even parked in our taken campground site. There were no warning signs that this would be happening. If we had known a loud asphalt crew would be working the area for hours until 7:30 PM, we would not have stayed. At one point, I had to get back in our car because it was so loud. The workers were back before 7 AM too. Secondly, there’s no running water- which luckily I read about on their website beforehand. But what I don’t understand is why the bathroom that has running water is “closed for winterization” in June. I’m sure this campground is great, but we happened to come on a bad day

This is in the north unit of park , no electric but water and dump station near the picnic area of campground. Sites can fit bigger RV's, and some near river . Campground host very nice and helpful. Bathrooms very clean. Will be back again to see and hike more trails.

Beautiful campground with flush toilets and sinks. No showers yet, maybe in the near future! Roads are paved in the campground. Lots of trees for shade. The little Missouri River comes right along the west side of the campground. Definitely recommend bringing your canoe/kayaks! Lots of hiking can be done in the area. $14 a night per spot unless you you have a senior pass ($7) or some kind of access pass, not sure what that involves. Campground host was very helpful and friendly!
