Great park just north of Des Moines. The trails have always been in good condition and are clearly marked at every point. The bugs can be bad in spots on certain trails
So much to see. I greatly appreciate their audio tour, bird blind, and the bison/elk viewing area.
Lots of fun things for the kids to do but it is really spaced out. Plan on taking bicycles, scooters or driving. We loved campground 2, seemed a little more spaced out than the others and we had a beautiful view. Lots of dogs were there but the trails were a little muddy so the inside of our camper was destroyed by the end of the weekend! Making memories though, right??!!. Dump stations were awesome and water hookups were spaced out pretty well. Overall we had a great time and will be back!
I'm currently on a cross-country walk to raise awareness for veteran homelessness and mental health and honestly this is probably the best place i have camped. As you can tell from the pictures, its absolutely gorgeous here. They have elk and bison you can see along with an amazing bird watching area as well. And if you buy 6 nights, you get the 7th night free. Totally impressive and highly recommend this spot!
We like this park very much. We visit this park very often. It is a good place for hiking, horse back riding, fishing, picnicing, camping etc. The trail beside the waterways is very nice, full of wildflowers, butterflies, monarchs. The breeze coming from lake is very refreshing. We like this place mostly for evening walk and hike.
