This is a small campground located adjacent to Highway 14 and the Cache La Poudre River near the Big South Trailhead. It is best suited for tent or small RV camping. There are four sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. This site provides access to hiking (within the Comanche Peak Wilderness), fishing and scenic driving.
Drive 11 miles north of Fort Collins on U.S. Highway 287.Turn left (west) onto Colorado Highway 14 (Poudre River Canyon) and travel approximately 47 miles.
Good snowshoeing trail. You can bring your dog here. Not much of a view though. Drive further up the pass for other hiking spots with better views. About an hour and a half drive from fort Collins.
This trail is 7 miles one way. We only walked a small portion of it due to time constraints and the late hour of the day and were not equipped to go further. We also were with our two dogs. The section we were on is beautiful! Part of Roosevelt National Forest about 1 hour from Fort Collins up State highway 14. Good amount of free parking at trail head. Dogs must be on leash at all times. No fees. Will be back when better equipped for a long hike!
