Awesome place for camping. Going fishing. It has a jetty as well. They have two beaches, one where you need a leash for dogs and the other where you don't. Lots of friendly people and campers and fishermen. It's fun.
You can hike, camp, bring your trailer and RV, go boating, go fishing and crabbing, or just watch the tides rolling and out of Bodega Bay. It's a beautiful place.
Decent place to camp out and relax. Neat little town close by where you can find many of your needs too. Also...SEALS in the wild 😃
***This is a tsunami zone, so be prepared just in case*** An earthquake, magnitude 2.7 (inland), hit pretty close that same day. Thankfully, no reports of any issues, but still, be safe and be prepared :).
Until this weekend, I could not have said, "never have I ever camped out in a tsunami zone, on a beach, and woken up by seals barking as a natural alarm clock."
Reservations needed there.. but you can go a couple miles north and find doran dunes state beach. Good campground. Hot showers for a dollar. You can either hike 1/4 mile to the beach or drive to it and park in the parking lot to get to beach. Fire rings are at campgrounds.
Took the horses there to have a look. The parking lots designated for horse trailers is small. First time passing they were full. On our way to leave the park (we couldn't find parking) we just so happened to get lucky on a Saturday at 2pm and pulled in. Took a quick stroll down the beach about a half mile long designated for horses. Nice beach and beach access to and from parking lot. Not much riding there but it would be a great place to take a young/inexperienced horse/rider. The waves were calm, and it was low tide.
